Annotated Bibliography Summary

Xu, Elizabeth. "What I Wish Someone Told Me BEFORE Becoming a Registered Nurse." What I Wish Someone Told Me BEFORE Becoming a Registered Nurse. Rasmussen,  Web. 16 Feb. 2016

The source gives future nurses insight to some things they should know before becoming a nurse. Some of the main points include always learning new things, being a good listener to patients and authority, and knowing, “you can’t save everyone, but that’s part of what being a nurse is all about” (Xu).  This quote is also one I would like to paraphrase in my final product because I think that is very important to know. Yes, you will get attached to patients and you will lose some patients but that is all part of being a nurse. There is more good done than bad. Another quote I though was important was, “the truth is, you’ll never be fully prepared” (Xu). This is true because there are different things wrong with every patient. Something could be wrong with a patient that you have never heard of before so you stay calm and do everything you can to figure out what is best to treat the patient. The source is credible because it is an “.edu” so it is an educational website and it was written by a Registered Nurse. This resource really works well with my topic because it has to do with what it takes to be a nurse beyond just nursing school. The source was very helpful and informative. I will be able to use this to show just what it takes to be a nurse past nursing school.

Isaac, Celia. "What Does a Registered Nurse Do?" What Does a Registered Nurse Do? Rasmussen, n.d. Web. 5 Mar. 2016. <http://www.rasmussen.edu/degrees/nursing/blog/what-does-a-registered-nurse-do/>.

This particular source discusses what a Registered Nurse actually does contrary to stereotypes or ideas people have made up of them. Everyone knows what a nurse looks like in a medical setting because of the scrubs but many people do not know the extent of their job duties. This article did a great job explaining that nursing jobs are not limited to just hospitals. There are nursing job opportunities in clinics, critical care centers, ambulatory care, and many more places. People also have the misconception that nurses have one job, which is to make patients feel better. The truth is that nurses have many duties to perform at work. Some of those include but are not limited to, paperwork, sorting medicine, administering medicine, and being consulting to patients and their families. Nurses are also expected to stay up to date on technology within their facility and beyond for medical use. Some of the basic skills a nurse is required to have are, patient care, Advance Cardiac life Support (ACLS), and case management. Some potential quotes I can use from this article are: 'No one denies their work is important, but what does a registered nurse (RN) actually do?", "administer medications, care for wounds, perform physicals and coordinate care with other health professionals","Nursing roles cover the medical, the administrative and the personal as they assess and work with patients of all backgrounds and ages.”, and "These skills help nurses provide the best care to patients and families and the best support to doctors and other healthcare professionals involved in the care of their patient." This source was very helpful because to truly understand why a nurse does what they do, you have to truly understand what it is that they do. This source is credible because it is an ".edu" source which is used for education and is on a Nursing School's website to inform students. I will definitely use this source to inform readers what nurses to do convey why they do what they do.

Flavin, Brianna. "Why Choose Nursing? Experts Reveal Their Reasons."Why Choose Nursing? Experts Reveal Their Reasons. Rasmussen, 30 Mar. 2015. Web. 10 Mar. 2016. <http://www.rasmussen.edu/degrees/nursing/blog/why-choose-nursing/>.

This article actually answers, "Why nurses do what they do". The answers come from Registered Nurses that have been interviewed so it is a great and reliable resource for information on my topic. This article discusses what potential reasons for becoming a nurse may be from various people. For example, some say do it for job security, good pay, and good benefit packages like retirement. When the nurses gave their reasoning for continuing to do what they do, and or why they decided to become a nurse, their answers varied. One nurse gave the reason, "I've been the patient and came back to be the patient advocate". Another said, she just wanted to let patients know they are cared for when they are in need of assistance. Another potential quote I could use from this article is, "nurses make the best patient advocates; they just need to know how to help". This website is credible because again, it is on the university’s website and is an ".edu" source. This article will be very helpful because it is like interviewing nurses and them directly answering my question.
